STRAWBERRY DROP SCONES RECIPE
Ingredients:
Yeast solution:
- 50 g/1¾ oz fresh yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp wheat flour
- 125 ml/½ cup warm milk
Batter:
- 375 g/3 cups wheat flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 eggs
- 30 g/1 oz melted butter
- 250 ml/1 cup warm milk
Additionally:
- strawberries
- oil
- powdered sugar, for dusting
Method:
- Prepare the yeast solution first: Crumble the yeast into a bowl, add 1 tbsp of sugar and mash these together until it turns liquid. Then, add flour, warm milk, mix well and set aside in warm place for yeast to start working, around 15 minutes.
- Take a large bowl and put flour inside . Add sugar, eggs, milk and melted butter, then grown yeast solution and mix it until you get a smooth, thick batter.
- Cover the bowl and set it aside in warm place for 30 minutes to grow again.
- Wash strawberries and cut them into smaller pieces. Heat up oil over medium heat. Pick a large spoonful of the batter and place it on the pan, stick few pieces of strawberry inside.
- Fry from both sides until it turns brown. Place cooked drop scones on a paper towel to drain the oil excess. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
